Número dos: How to spot a deep fake

Spotting a deep fake is hard. Tech is getting so good now it's becoming increasingly harder to tell what's real from what's fake. One of the easiest ways to spot a deep fake is by checking the lighting. let's say the person is wearing glasses, is the light reflecting off the lenses. Are the shadows in the correct spots? Are there even shadows? Make sure the lighting physics are natural and it doesn't look off. But there probably will be ways around that soon. In games, I know Nvidia and AMD are working on ray tracing for video games right now and bringing that tech to the mainstream. Since they've already figured out how to make light behave in games like it does in real life I doubt it'll be long until that same tech can be used in deep fakes. Another way you can tell might be skin-based. Like if the person is on the older side are there any simple lines or wrinkles. Is the skin completely smooth without any natural "defects" and how does the contrast look? If the deep fake is audio related maybe listen to the inflection and tone of their voice. For me I would take the steps above and if it’s a person I may know then look for anything out of the ordinary. Oh, and if it’s a video deep fake if they have lighter skin maybe look at the hue. But I have hope, deep fakes will get better with time but so will ways to identify them… probably.
